Selonnes Policy Tidbits: | Our dysfunctional democracy comes a full circle….

The operating principles of any democracy is the separation of powers between the three arms and the respect for the stratification of the three tiers of government; federal, state and local government. What is happening in governance in Nigeria speaks to the prevailing dysfunctional excesses of our democracy. There is gross disconnect and gross dissonance in governance at all levels. The imbroglio in Rivers State is a case in point. But over all, conventional wisdom suggests that “In campaigning, you try to demonize your opponent. In governing, you make love to your opponents. That’s how you put working coalitions together.” There is no such thing in Nigeria. Our nascent democracy has come a full circle, but the rising level of illiberalism is frightening.
