The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] has taken strategic steps to sanitise the party ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

According to a communiqué signed by the party’s spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the party, on Friday, dissolved all existing factional executive committees of the party in the state.

All existing caretaker committees in state are therefore sacked until further notice as the party strategise for the upcoming election.

The party reached the resolution after a meeting between the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) and PDP leaders and stakeholders in Anambra State.

The communiqué reads: “The NCC in exercise of its Powers under Section 31, (2)(E) today dissolved all the existing factional Executive Committees of the Party in Anambra State.

“The NCC will in due course, appoint a Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the PDP in the State pending when it will be auspicious to elect executive committees at all levels.

“To this end, all Party Stakeholders (Leaders and other Members) are hereby enjoined to bury all their differences and join hands together in unity towards the Victory of the Party in the forthcoming Gubernatorial Election in Anambra State.”

Reacting to the NCC decision, the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi said after the meeting:

“We had discussion on how we can all be part of the efforts to get the PDP to effective play its role as opposition party to help build a better Nigeria.

“On Anambra he said it was a family meeting intended to resolve the differences in the party and to help build a better Anambra State.”

Governorship aspirant, Mr Oseloka Obaze said: “The meeting gave us clear guidance on where we are going.

“And we agreed on modalities towards making sure that by November 18, the party will win Anambra governorship election.

“It is work in progress and what is important is that people need to dialogue at all junctions and that is what you have seen here.

“We have selected people from the three senatorial districts to work with the national caretaker committee to move us forward I think that is very positive.

“The chance of the party is very bright the challenges we had in the past was that of division within the party. Now that the party is under one able leadership, I think it will be easy to rally people to victory come November 18.”

The national secretary of the party, Ben Obi noted: “Anambra State governorship election is first litmus test for PDP to display its unity and togetherness before Nigerians.

“It is the first major event of the party after the Supreme Court judgment.

“Prior to the judgment a united PDP defeated the APC in Osun State.”
