Selonnes Consult Policy Titbits: Hate Speech Bill Insidious and Unnecessary

The shrinking of Nigeria’s civic space should bother Nigerians. Whereas hate speech,  fighting and inciting words should be decried, those  who in a democratic setting craft extremist laws meant to subjugate people under the ruse of hate speech, should remember that in time, they too or their kith and kin will face such laws. Existing Nigerian laws are sufficiently broad to cover defamation, sedition and libel. In our democracy, we certainly do not need laws that tamper with free speech. ~ OHO
