When Chinua Achebe said that “being a Nigerian is abysmally frustrating and unbelievably exciting”(1967), and that the “the trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely the failure of leadership” (1984), he was merely enunciating the core tenets of The Peter Principle. Nigeria is where it is today, not because it is bereft of capable and purposeful leaders, but because her people in the leadership hierarchy tend to rise to their “level of incompetence.”
