Statement Attributable to Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, PDP Governorship candidate on state-sponsored fake news against his person

OHO Press Release: 17/29 of 16 September, 2017Statement Attributable to Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, PDP Governorship candidate on state-sponsored fake news against his person

Of late, there have been hordes of state-sponsored TV and Radio Documentaries/Programmes, Newspaper Articles and Social Media Posts relentlessly churned out to malign my person. From labeling me “a stooge” and “lackey” to spuriously alleging that I went to a shrine to take an oath and now, directly attributing to me a statement I didn’t make. The latest attempt titled, “IPOB is a Security Risk : Oseloka Obaze” marks a new low and is completely false.  It is fake news!

Coincidentally, I had, in a series of numbered tweets posted on my official Twitter account, @OselokaHObaze, on September 13, 2017, offered my thoughts on the Abia situation, saying,”Re Abia skirmishes and curfew, we sue for peace and nonviolence. Peaceful assembly remains an ordered Liberty. There’s need to avoid use of the military for civilian policing.” That was, and still is my position on the issue. I couldn’t have turned around to say something totally different the next day as alleged. Secondly, I was in far away Abuja on the day in question(see ticket stub); so I could not have been in Abuja and in my country home at the same time, as falsely reported.

I must emphasize that civility is no weakness; neither should the the respect high public office holders be misconstrued as weakness. Accordingly, those privileged to serve within the confines of the exalted Office of the Governor should not reduce the office to a channel for peddling egregious filth and falsity.

My personal commitment to run an issues-based campaign remains strong. It needs to be stated that the forthcoming election is not about me but about the future of our children and our posterity. It’s about the marginalized and neglected communities that suffer under the crushing weight of gully erosion sites and horrible roads because this government has refused to treat all communities fairly. It is about how we have gone from zero debt to owing US$85 million (NGN 31 billion) in foreign debt and a similar amount in domestic debt. Agents of the incumbent government must inform Ndi Anambra, of their accomplishments in the past three years, how they have managed state resources and why the government of the day deserves to be returned to a second term.

I wish my supporters to know that no matter how much we are provoked, my campaign team and I will not be lured to descend to the plebeian realm of calumny and character assassination.
