Statement attributable to Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, on the position of Anambra North People’s Assembly on Anambra State Governorship

Selonnes Consult Ltd. Press Release: 17/6;  09 March, 2017

Statement attributable to Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze, on the position of Anambra North People’s Assembly on Anambra State Governorship
Given the erroneous impression being bandied about in the media purporting the recent decision by the Anambra North People’s Assembly to endorse a sole candidate from the zone for the governorship, as reflective of an Anambra North consensus, it has become imperative to clearly restate my stand on the matter.

I had the honour and privilege of hosting the ANPA Executives led by Chief Emma Achike in my office and exchanging views with them over a two-hour period on 5th January, 2017. I also interacted with the ANPA Committee led by Dr. Tim Menakaya when they visited Atani in Ogbaru LGA on 23 January, 2017.

In both instances, I made it clear that Anambra North should be allowed to complete its second tenure, and that the people of the North senatorial zone should be accorded the opportunity to present their best candidates for the forthcoming governorship elections in accordance with acceptable and unfettered democratic norms.

However, ANPA, has in its considered wisdom, taken a non-inclusive, unrepresentative and undemocratic decision that forecloses on all possible and probable best options open to Anambra North. In the fullness of time, the limited utility of such a myopic decision will become manifest. History and realpolitik will reveal consequently that the best political decisions and judgement are those based on pragmatism not on gratuitous or primordial sentiments.
